Since I was in kindergarten, I have been a public performer. I'm sure I entertained my family before then, but my first appearance on stage was when I was five. After that first performance, I was hooked. My whole life has revolved around being on stage in one way or another as often as possible. I have been involved with acting in theatre and on film, playing in rock bands and jazz combos, giving speeches, and doing spoken word performances. I have worked with quite a few actors and crews that have, more often than not, been wonderful.
It hasn't all been bright lights and acting roles. I grew up in a farm community that really shaped how I navigate this world. I learned early on that being kind and considerate was the way I wanted to run my life. Having the patience to raise hogs and tend cattle has proven to be a helpful tool in dealing with people who often act like pigs and cows. Learning that an honest day's work produces an honest day's pay was rewarding in itself. An old adage is "Luck favors the prepared." I feel like I have worked very hard to be lucky enough to have worked with some amazing people in the film and theatre industries. And, as luck wills it, I will continue the trend and work with more and more exciting people in all fields of performance. More projects equals more happy!
There is a lot going on in my head. I have trouble sorting it all out, so I made this website to try to organize my writing output and keep track of the acting projects I've been a part of. I can tell you that it helps but I still sit up late at night thinking about things to write, things to eat, and things that would be cool to do someday. I grew up in rural Oklahoma and I'm currently living in a different part of rural Oklahoma. I've been a bit of a nomad in that I've traveled extensively and lived in nearly forty different places. I'm afraid that I'm not settling down anytime soon either. The list of things that I love is pretty vast. I write about some of them which you can see if you go to TalkingSimian.com. That's my site for writing about the cool stuff our world has to offer. You can also go to my YouTube page HERE and see me singing, playing guitar, and acting. Big fun! I have a great family, wife Flora and daughter Audry. I used to own a skate shop/haberdashery called Planet J. It was fun for awhile and then got frustrating with the economic downturn. Essentially, it was a good idea in the wrong town. I like orangutans. I like pie. I like going to see hockey, basketball, and baseball. I love going to the movies and theatre. I tend to be a Pluviophile. I am a certified wine specialist. I'm sure there's more to tell about myself, but usually, I tend to be a bit of a private person. I'll elaborate on some of my life in the rest of these pages. Thanks for stopping by. ~J~
